Helsingin Sanomat Paid Attention to Our Letter

Writer: Initiative FoReDiInitiative FoReDi

Helsingin Sanomat highlighted our letter to the European Commission, calling to stop the import of Russian nickel ore by Norilsk Nickel to Finland and to raise the issue of imposing European Union sanctions against Norilsk Nickel and personally against Vladimir Potanin.

We also received a response from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

"Finland firmly supports the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Finland responds to Russia’s actions as part of the European Union and considers it important for the EU to continue providing a strong, effective, and unified response to Russia's military invasion of Ukraine. Finland supports EU efforts aimed at weakening and limiting Russia's ability to continue its military actions and support related sectors. The EU must continue to consistently strengthen sanctions against Russia as the aggression continues. Finland considers the expansion of sectoral sanctions, their effective implementation, and the prevention of sanctions circumvention to be important.
Decisions on the introduction of new sanctions are made unanimously by the EU Council. Negotiations on new sanctions between member states are confidential, and we do not publicly comment on the preparation of new sanctions."
