Discussion “Russian-Speaking Authors in Contemporary Finnish Literature”
On 21 October at 18:00, ahead of the Helsinki Book Fair, Töölö Library will host a discussion featuring Finnish writers with a Russian-speaking background.
The discussion will be held in Finnish.
The discussion will explore what it is like for writers with a Russian-speaking background to write in Finnish and how their work is received in Finland and abroad. We will also discuss the current state of Russian-language literature, freedom of expression, support available to writers in Finland and elsewhere in Europe, and whether it is possible today to make a living solely from literary work.
We will also talk about contemporary publishing: where books are published today, what kind of print runs they have, how challenging it is to translate a work into another language, and how writers can find their readers.
The guests are writers Anna Soudakova and Daniil Kozlov (Susinukke Kosola).The discussion will be moderated by Riku Savonen, Executive Director of the Finland–Russia Society (Suomi–Venäjä-seura).
Before the discussion, visitors will also be able to explore a selection of books recommended by our guests, Anna Soudakova and Daniil Kozlov.
