The founders of Initiative FoReDi held a picket at the "Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta" plant in the city of Harjavalta to remind European politicians that the plant in Finland continues to receive Russian nickel ore, while copper is sent back to Russia. The nickel refining plant belongs to the Russian metallurgical company "Norilsk Nickel," which is controlled by Putin's oligarch Vladimir Potanin. Despite Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he has not yet been sanctioned by the European Union.
The Russian company profits from processing ore, while in Russia, nickel is used for the production of military aircraft engines, tank armor, and even the steel of a Kalashnikov rifle is made up of 14% nickel.
