Help Russian asylum seekers in Finland expedite their application process!

Writer: Initiative FoReDiInitiative FoReDi

An initiative group of Russians who have been forcibly displaced in Finland and have applied for asylum has created a petition addressed to the Finnish Immigration Service, demanding an acceleration of the processing of international protection applications for citizens of the Russian Federation whose waiting time for a decision exceeds 21 months.

📜 Why is this important?

According to Article 21 of the Constitution of Finland, everyone has the right to have their case examined properly and without unjustifiable delay. However, citizens of Russia are waiting for a decision for more than 21 months, and in some cases, this time reaches up to 30 months. Meanwhile, applications from asylum seekers from other countries are processed normally. The delay in processing applications violates the Finnish Aliens Act of April 30, 2004 (Section 301, 98 a), which states that a decision should be made within 21 months, even in cases of an unstable situation in the applicant's country of origin.

💔 Prolonged waiting creates significant psychological pressure on individuals, complicates their employment opportunities, and hinders their integration into Finnish society. Many of them have been living in reception centers, where conditions are far from ideal, for over two years.

🚨 The petition demands:

1. To expedite the processing of applications from Russian seekers.

2. To investigate and eliminate the causes of delays.

3. To ensure that each applicant has the opportunity to receive a decision on their case within a reasonable timeframe.

This is not just a matter of bureaucracy, but a matter of human dignity and rights. Please sign the petition and share it with your friends to help bring this important issue to the attention of the Finnish authorities.
