Dialogue between Russian and Finnish societies

Writer: Initiative FoReDiInitiative FoReDi

This week, a lecture by one of the founders of Initiative FoReDi, Russian Arctic researcher Nikita Kirillov, took place at Rikhardinkatu Library in Helsinki.

During the lecture, Nikita talked about the environmental damage left by the Soviet Union in the Arctic, how ordinary people, rather than authorities, are changing the region, the prospects for developing this unique territory, how to befriend polar bears, travel across the Kola Peninsula while avoiding bites from wild horses, and climb the Polar Urals despite its challenging terrain.

The lecture was held in Russian with Finnish translation, thanks to the experienced translator Toivo Tupin, and was organized by the Russian Club "Druzhba" in the Käpylä district.

Around 30 people attended, the majority of whom were Finns. Events like these are crucial, as they help foster dialogue between Russian and Finnish communities, provide first-hand information, and strengthen friendly connections.
