Finland’s largest newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat, published a selection of the most memorable photographs of 2024 taken by its editorial photographers. Among these images was a photograph from the exhibition "Faces of Russian Resistance", organized in Helsinki by the Initiative FoReDi.

The aim of the exhibition was to inform Finnish citizens about the fate of Russian political prisoners and draw the attention of European society to the widespread human rights violations in Russia.
The setup of the exhibition was scheduled for February 16, 2024. No one could have anticipated the significance this exhibition would take on or the tragic nature of that day. It was on this very day that Alexei Anatolievich Navalny was killed at the age of 47 in the maximum-security correctional colony No. 3 (“Polar Wolf”) located in the settlement of Kharp.
Later in the evening, while the exhibition was still being set up, Finns began arriving with flowers and candles at the photograph of Alexei to express their condolences.
